Through Project Shybird we're on a mission to reinvent the education value chain to create exponentially greater impact for educators, students, communities and the economy. We see immense potential for AI-led innovation to solve complex, entrenched, and systemic problems which show up – in subtly different ways – in education systems all over the world.

Our first of a to-be-confirmed-number of Shybird product releases, we've built a tool which turns the 20-day process of preparing a new-style apprenticeship assessment strategy document into a 20-minute process – whilst boosting consistency, compliance, and quality.

For an apprenticeship assessment organisation with a portfolio of 100 apprenticeships, we estimate the cost saving will be more than £575k; and for an organisation with a portfolio of 50 apprenticeships, the saving will be more than £260k.

The context

The UK Government is reforming the way apprenticeships are assessed. Where previously Government proscribed how programmes should be assessed through 'end point assessment plans' they now define requirements at a higher level and empower individual assessment organisations to prepare detailed 'apprenticeship assessment strategies' which:

• Reflect those top-line compliance and design requirements; and,
• Permit for differentiation in design between assessment organisations.

With over 700 apprenticeships on offer, and more in the pipeline, responding to the reform agenda is a substantial and costly undertaking for assessment organisations.

First, they need to consider their strategic perspective, including not least which apprenticeships they'll support under these new arrangements; how they'll differentiate their offer from their competitors; and what additional support they'll provide to their customers.

Then they need to reflect that strategic perspective in the development of compliant, high-quality artefacts which manifest their differentiation into each, individual product – and they need to do it as quickly as they can, such that their differentiation is matched by their time-to-market.

The solution

Once they've done the up-front product strategy piece – which Avencera's consulting practice is brilliantly placed to support – we estimate that it will take assessment organisations' development teams around 25 person days effort to prepare each assessment strategy – once you account for practitioners' development time; quality assurance; oversight and governance.
