Our understanding of the strategic and organisational context, transformation and change enables us to create learning solutions that shift behaviour and boost performance. With deep technical expertise in learning and AI innovation capability, we build solutions that are dynamic, practical, and progressive.

Common Learning Projects

Product Strategy

Helping clients in regulated and commercial markets shape their learning product strategies, based on robust analysis of the market, customer base, competitors, opportunities for differentiation, and sustainable revenue/margin.

Product-Market Fit

Helping clients assess the extent to which a current product meets their customers’ needs, what must evolve, and whether there’s a business case to develop a product or products in new areas – and how to differentiate if they do.

Product Innovation

Helping clients think about how they can materially differentiate their overall offering and specific products from competitors, leveraging insight rooted in the wider public policy context, institution/educator realities, and the opportunities of AI.

Product Development

Helping clients develop new products, occupational standards, the full range of Ofqual-regulated qualifications, and unregulated/commercial L&D programmes. We increasingly use AI capabilities and solutions for this work — see below.

Assessment Design

Helping clients develop best practice, compliant ,and organisationally-aligned assessment strategies, codifying design decisions and rules in AI products to empower human experts to produce quality assessment artefacts at increased pace and volume.

Programme Design

Helping clients design innovative programmes built for dynamic learner engagement. Our programmes support personalised, non-linear learner journeys which reflect modern learning needs and best practice, and leverage AI in design and UX.

Learning Content

Helping clients achieve quality, valid learning content across the full product offering at the right breadth, depth, and level through our wide-ranging, in-house subject matter expertise and AI-underpinned research methodology.

Learning Tech

Helping clients to imagine and build bespoke pieces of typically AI-led learning technology to solve underserved customer problems, including those which exist in the technical depths of the regulated education sector.

A WORKS Impact: Project Shybird

Through A WORKS, Avencera’s adaptive collaboration engine, we’ve partnered with MIT and Harvard alumni to define a research method, impossible to deploy without AI, which enables us to define the knowledge, skills, and behaviours which should be covered in a given qualification or learning programme.  We then rapidly translate that insight into fully-formed product specifications which meet external regulatory requirements.

We then use the knowledge graph we create through that process to create further, agentic, solutions which educators can use to create learning programmes and resources.  We’re keen to widen our collaboration circle on this work, so if you’re interested, drop us a line.

Learning Experts

Dr Gemma Gronland, Director of Learning and Development, leads our product team. She holds a PhD from UCL’s Institute of Education, where she continues to research and develop teacher training, and she is one of the nation’s preeminent experts in curriculum, pedagogy and assessment. She holds a masters in education from Harvard, and taught secondary English in Barking and Dagenham.

Jane Huber, Junior Consultant, taught in New York City and completed a master’s degree in public policy at the London School of Economics. She led a sophisticated curriculum transformation programme in Harlem, which delivered a >200% in engagement and >80% increase in attendance, driving positive progression.

Hilary Bretag, Senior Consultant, is a public policy expert who specialises in working with clients to solve complex problems, including via the astute adoption of AI. She supported Pearson’s mobilisation of the UK testing operations contract, and is currently leading the work described above to develop bespoke, AI-led, learning management and content solutions including sophisticated avatars.

We also maintain an extensive team of product and subject matter experts in a wide range of sector and subject areas to support the breadth of product work clients need.
